What is the F Plan Diet?
What is the F-plan high-fibre diet created by Audrey Eyton? The F plan there it is a diet which is high in fibre and is intended to induce weight-loss at a healthy rate. It was created in the 1980s by a British author called Audrey Eyton who also founded Slimming Magazine. The F plan diet was based on the work of Dennis Burkitt who was a medical practitioner specializing in cancer treatments who ascertained that high fibre diets were beneficial to overall health.
The F plan diet works by restricting daily calorie intake to under 1500 calories whilst at the same time increasing dietary fibre intake over the recommended level. Fibre has many beneficial effects which are beneficial to weight loss. Fibre:
- makes you feel fuller for longer
- reduces your urge to overeat
- promotes a healthy digestive system
There are no major side effects to following the diet. It is deemed safe and indeed beneficial to overall health. However one slight disadvantage of following the F plan diet is excessive flatulence. However this generally subsides after the first few weeks and is caused by the high-fibre intake on the diet.
Also, some people do not like the texture of high fibre foods, for example All Bran cereals, however for others this is not an issue. Followers are advised to increase fluid intake whilst following the F plan diet to avoid constipation and to assist with the flatulence issue.
Despite these minor drawbacks this diet is very effective for weight loss and still remains a popular choice of diet today as it promotes overall health and can be followed long term.
Audrey Eyton updated the original F plan diet with a new and revised version called the F2 plan diet which was revised to take into account modern medical discoveries. The new F2 plan diet claims to be faster and even more effective for weight loss though based on the same premise of a high fibre diet.
